Human Factors in Defence

In the defence sector it is essential to understand the inherent strengths, weaknesses, capabilities and limitations of the human operator – the military’s most vital operating system.

Considering the human within operating platforms, both physically and mentally, ensures the safety and efficiency of our forces by minimising the likelihood of error and optimising survivability, protection and operational performance.

Our experience

Ergonomie has a detailed understanding of the constraints imposed by human capabilities and behaviour that impact on the effective, efficient and safe operation of a system. This is especially important in sectors such as defence, where development and operation of technologically advanced systems is commonplace.

Integration of multiple technologies, operators and equipment requires careful consideration to ensure optimal design for soldiers, considering their physical and mental workload in dynamic operational environments.

Our consultants have experience in applying human factors principles and techniques in the defence sector, within domains of physical, physiological, biomechanical, cognitive and organisational human factors. We have provided human factors consultancy services for naval vessels and submarines, armoured vehicles, dismounted combatants, personal equipment and performance-related research.

Human Factors plays a key role in design and evaluation of soldier systems to ensure efficient operational performance and survivability.
